Ky. judge suspended after showing up to court intoxicated

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Commonwealth’s Judicial Conduct Commission says an 8th District judge is suspended after showing up to work drunk.

An order from the commission says Sam Potter, Jr. is suspended for about one month starting this December. In a document provided by the commission, it says Potter “consumed alcohol to a degree that it affected the performance of his duties.” The document goes on to say Potter “appeared in court disheveled” and “engaged in erratic behavior.”

According to the document, during the Commission’s investigation, Potter started an in-patient treatment program and once he completed that, agreed on terms with the Kentucky Lawyers Assistance Program and will allow the Commission to follow his progress.

While suspended, the Commission says Potter can’t use his office at the Warren County Justice Center.
