Ky. crematorium closed after over 300 illicit cremations, AG says

BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Kentucky funeral home was ordered to stop cremations after it failed to register to operate a crematory and was performing services without a license, the Attorney General’s Office says.

In early January, Russell Coleman’s office was notified that the Cloverport Funeral Home in Breckinridge County hadn’t registered to operate a crematory. Since April 2023, the funeral home had allegedly performed over 300 cremations.

A temporary restraining order was issued to prevent the funeral home from continuing operations.

This case was investigated by Deputy Executive Director of Consumer Protection with the AG’s office Jonathan Farmer, Special Attorney Matthew Cocanougher and Registrations Branch Manager Tiffany Durham.
