KY 312 bridge at Laurel/Whitley line closed beginning next week
MANCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists the KY 312 Bridge will be closed at the Laurel/Whitley line (milepoint 0) beginning Monday, May 14 at 5 a.m.
The $260,572 project is expected to conclude on Thursday, May 24 at midnight, and is necessary to allow M&M Services Company, Inc. crews to perform a complete bridge deck overlay. Signed detours will be used for alternate routes.
“This closure will allow the contractor to place the bridge deck overlay full width, eliminating the joint down the center,” said Mike Calebs, Chief District Engineer for the Department of Highways District 11. “Closing the bridge during the overlay project will be safer for workers and motorists, while reducing the time to complete the project by three to four weeks. The new deck without a centerline joint will provide an overall better product for the bridge to protect the new paint applied last year on the steel beams underneath the structure.”
KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect delays, use the signed detour for alternate routes, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can access travel and traffic conditions at http://goky.ky.gov or contribute their own reports at www.waze.com or via the Waze mobile application.
