KSP: Two inmates escape in Lee County

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say two inmates, who are cousins, escaped in Lee County Wednesday afternoon while being transported back to Wolfe County.

Investigators say the Wolfe County jailer was driving 19-year old Dallas Trent of Campton and 23-year old John Trent, also of Campton, back to jail around 12:30 p.m., following a court appearance, when the pair escaped from the transport vehicle.

The Wolfe County sheriff says the jailer told him that a truck slowed in front of him and as he slowed down, the two inmates jumped out of the car and ran over a hill to freedom.  The sheriff says the jailer doesn’t know how the two men got the doors open.

State Police say both inmates were in jail after being indicted by a Wolfe County Grand Jury on robbery charges.

Investigators say both men are approximately 5’7," weighing 140-pounds.  They were last seen wearing a white t-shirt and pants of an unknown color.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call local law enforcement or State Police at 859-623-2404 or 1-800-222-5555.
