KSP: One suspect fatally shot, another arrested in Pike Co.
PHELPS, Ky. (WTVQ/AP) – One man is dead, and another is in jail after a Trooper-involved shooting in Pike Co.
State Police say they were called to a home on Phillips Branch Road early Sunday morning in reference to an assault complaint.
When they got to the home, investigators say they found 40-year-old Lacy Wolford (pictured below,) and 32-year-old John Casey, and say both men had active arrest warrants.

Both Wolford and Casey ran from police and had to be tracked down, according to officers. When Casey was found, police say he made threats, picked up a rock, and hit a Trooper in the face. Then, officers say Casey pulled a “silver object” from his pocket. Troopers say that’s when an officer fired his gun and fatally shot Casey. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike Co. Coroner.
Investigators say the “silver object” turned out to be a beer can.
Casey’s body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy. According to the Associated Press, Laura Casey, John Casey’s sister, says her brother was unarmed and was not involved in an altercation with the trooper prior to being shot.
Lacy Wolford was later located and arrested on charges of public intoxication, fleeing or evading, and possession of a concealed deadly weapon.
He was taken to the Pike Co. Detention Center.
