KSP: One dead, two injured in Russell County crash; driver facing multiple charges

JAMESTOWN, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police say one child is dead and two others are injured following a crash in Russell County early Sunday morning.

According to a release from KSP, troopers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Sano Mount Olive Road just after 1 a.m. on April 20.

The release says the preliminary investigation show that David King, 31, of Columbia, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR eastbound when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

One juvenile passenger was taken to Russell County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by the Russell County Coroner. A second juvenile was flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A third child was also taken to Russell County Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

King was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide Under the Influence of Alcohol, DUI (3rd offense), two counts of Assault 1st Degree, three counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Failure to Wear Seat Belts, and Reckless Driving.

He is being held at the Russell County Detention Center. Kentucky State Police says the investigation is ongoing.
