KSP: One dead after crash on I-75
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person was killed in a three-car crash on I-75 in Laurel County, state police say.
State police say it happened Sunday night around 9:30 when a commercial vehicle was traveling southbound, near mile marker 46, when he was rear-ended by a Saturn car. Both vehicles pulled over onto the shoulder and the commercial vehicle driver got out to go check on people inside the Saturn.
At the same time, a third vehicle car slammed into the Saturn that was partially in the roadway, state police say. That impact sent the Saturn into an embankment and caused the third vehicle to hit the commercial vehicle’s driver.
The truck’s driver, Zhurko Pavel, 46, of Nicholasville, was transported to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in London where he was pronounced dead, state police say.
The driver of the Saturn was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is receiving treatment for his injuries, state police say. His passenger was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in London where she was treated and released.
State police are still investigating.
