KSP: Man kills ex-wife’s husband, takes children

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a double shooting in Russell County that left one man dead.

Troopers were called to a home on KY 92 in Russell Springs at 10:14 a.m. Friday about a shooting.

They arrived to find 28-year-old Coty Lawson and 29-year-old Jessica Lawhorn shot.

Coty Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jessican Lawhorn was flown to the University of Kentucky hospital.

Troopers say Jessica Lawhorn’s ex-husband, 38-year-old David Johnson, of Albany, took their three children against their will after shooting her and Coty Lawhorn.

After a short pursuit, authorities caught up with Johnson and took him into custody.

He is charged with murder.

The children were not injured.

State Police say the shooting likely stemmed from an ongoing custody dispute.
