KSP investigates possible live grenade; device rendered safe

Slaughters, KY. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police respond to possible live grenade threat.

The grenade was rendered safe and the roadways/rail way was re-opened.

A call came in Monday that a man had been metal detecting in an empty field where he discovered a grenade.

The man brought the grenade to the Downtown Market in Slaughters where he notified law enforcement of the find.

KSP set up a safety parameter and evacuated the area.

SR 138, US 41, New Hope Road, and the rail way were shut down for a time.

Hazardous Devices Investigator Steven Smith is currently on scene to render the grenade safe.

KSP advises the public that you should never touch or transport an explosive device; leave it, notify law enforcement, and get as far away as possible from the device.
