KSP investigating officer-involved shooting in Butler County

MORGANTOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a Butler County man was shot during a confrontation with an officer Thursday morning.

State Police say the Butler County Sheriff’s Department called them to assist with a domestic dispute on Brownsville Road in Morgantown.

Police say an officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation was the first to arrive on the scene and was confronted by 55-year-old Gary Ranburger, who was armed.

The two exchanged gunfire and Ranburger was struck multiple times, according to police.

Ranburger was flown to a hospital in Nashville, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The officer was not injured.

State Police say he was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
