KSP investigating deadly officer-involved shooting in Boyd County

ASHLAND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police is investigating after a man was shot and killed during a standoff with Ashland Police Tuesday evening.

According to a release from KSP, officers were initially called to a trespassing and burglary complaint around 7 p.m. on Blackburn Avenue. A man, reportedly armed with a firearm, had already left the scene when officers arrived.

Police say while helping the the resident to safety,  they encountered the man near a church—armed with a shotgun. A standoff began, and the Ashland Police Special Response Team was called in.

Despite negotiations to end the standoff peacefully, police say the situation escalated and officers fatally shot the man. No officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team.
