KSP investigating after officer shoots at vehicle theft suspects
GREENSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky State Police are investigating the circumstances around an officer who shot at two vehicle theft suspects on Sunday night.
A Greensburg Police Department officer allegedly shot at the suspects around 7:17 p.m.
A GPD officer was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a man on Creason Lane, off U.S. Route 68, when the officer and the man got into a “minor altercation,” according to ABC affiliate WHAS.
The officer eventually put the man in handcuffs and in the back seat of his police cruiser.
However, as the officer continued to handle the man, a woman jumped into the officer’s car and drove off, WHAS added.
GPD Chief Josh Judd told WHAS that as the officer tried to “regain control of the vehicle, the woman began accelerating towards the officer. The officer fired shots at the vehicle, but the woman and man were able to escape.”
The abandoned police cruiser was later found about 12 miles away on Marshall Road, but the two suspects were gone.
The man and woman were found around 3 a.m. and arrested.
KSP will handle the investigation into the officer who fired the shots at the suspect.
