KSP investigating after fatal ATV crash
HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) -A Perry Co. man is dead after the ATV he was driving collided with a tree.
Troopers were sent to Bark Camp Branch Road in the Delphia community after receiving a call about the crash.
Officers say that Michael Akers, 43, and a passenger were on board the vehicle, when it dropped off the left edge of the pavement. The passenger, 33-year-old Ronnie Shepherd, was able to jump off the ATV before it traveled across the roadway and hit a tree.
Akers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry Co. Coroner’s Office. Shepherd received minor injuries that were treated at the scene.
Neither of the two were wearing helmets.
KSP says that toxicology results are pending and no autopsy will be performed.
