KSP investigates officer-involved shooting in Shelby County

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) Kentucky State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead and a deputy injured in Shelby County early Monday morning.

According to a release from KSP, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the KSP Critical Incident Response Team following the shooting, which happened just after 1 a.m. Monday at a home on Blackwell Road in Shelbyville.

The release states that deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident at the residence. When they arrived, a deputy encountered a man and woman outside the home. During the interaction, the man—identified as 41-year-old Ryan McBride of Shelbyville—allegedly retrieved a firearm and began firing at the deputy.

KSP says at least one round struck a piece of the deputy’s equipment, causing a minor injury. The deputy then returned fire, hitting McBride and causing life-threatening injuries. The Shelby County Coroner says McBride died at the scene.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released. No other injuries were reported.
