Apparent flood-related death in Martin County

LOVELY, Ky. (WTVQ) – It appears a woman found dead after flood waters receded in Martin County drowned during the flooding , according to the county coroner.

40-year old April Brewer, of Lovely, was found around noon Tuesday along Riverfront Road in Lovely. The road runs along Tug Fork and Wolf Creek, which converge in the community along the West Virginia state line.

The initial investigation by Kentucky State Police indicated Brewer was found in an area that had been submerged during the flood.  Investigators say no foul play is suspected.

Martin County Coroner Chris Todd says the preliminary autopsy results from the State Medical Examiner’s Office show Brewer died from an apparent drowning.  The coroner says he’s still waiting on toxicology results.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Joseph Coleman. Detective Coleman was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police Post 9 personnel and Belfry Volunteer Fire Department.
