KSP: Burglary suspect shot after refusing to drop gun
State Police troopers, Scott County Sheriff’s deputies and Georgetown Police were trying to find a man with an active arrest warrant, state police tell ABC 36 News. They say he is believed to be a suspect in a burglary.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office received reports the suspect was camping on the banks of North Elkhorn Creek, near the intersection of Lemons Mill Road and Newtown Pike, state police say.
When officers found the suspect, state police say he was holding a hand gun. Troopers ordered the man to drop it, but he refused and raised the gun towards the officers and police fired at the suspect, wounding him.
The 33-year-old Georgetown man was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. Charges against him are still pending and the investigation is ongoing, police say.
State police say no one else was injured in the incident.
