KSP: Bardstown Police Officer Shot And Killed

State police were called to a car crash this morning that wasn’t what they expected.

Deputies responded to a call of a fatal car crash involving a police officer around 3:00 a.m. on the ramp at exit 34 of the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County.

When they got there, they say they found out it wasn’t a crash, but 33-year-old Jason Ellis, the uniformed officer inside, had been shot and killed on his way home from work.

Ellis was a K9 officer and had been with the Bardstown Police Department for seven years.
