KSP: Armored car employee OK after shooting himself outside store

PRESTONBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – An armored car service employee is expected to be okay after police say he accidentally shot himself Thursday.

Kentucky State Police say 35-year-old David Payton, a messenger for GuardaWorld armored car service, was making a drop-off at a Big Lots store in Prestonburg when the incident occurred.

During the drop-off, troopers say Payton’s gun accidentally went off, causing him to be shot in the abdomen.

Troopers say Payton was airlifted to a West Virginia Hospital where he is in stable condition.

There is no criminal activity suspected.
