Kroger launching statewide Pappy Van Winkle lottery with more than 1,000 bottles up for grabs
KENTUCKY (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky bourbon fans are getting an early holiday gift: Kroger is bringing back its Pappy Van Winkle lottery, and this year more than 1,000 bottles will be available across the state.
According to Kroger, all 61 Kentucky Wine & Spirit Shoppes locations will participate in the lottery on Saturday, December 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. local time. Each store will have at least 14 bottles on hand — including some of the most sought-after Pappy and Old Rip Van Winkle varieties.
Shoppers can enter once per store, giving the most dedicated bourbon hunters a chance to visit multiple locations.
Kroger says the bottles available will include:
• Old Rip Van Winkle 10-year, 107 proof (Retail: $149.99)
• Old Rip Van Winkle 12-year, 90.4 proof (Retail: $169.99)
• Old Rip Van Winkle 13-year, 95.6 proof (Retail: $229.99)
• Pappy Van Winkle 15-year, 107 proof (Retail: $239.99)
• Pappy Van Winkle 20-year, 90.4 proof (Retail: $359.99)
• Pappy Van Winkle 23-year, 95.6 proof (Retail: $499.99)
Kroger officials said Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve is considered one of the world’s finest bourbons — and with very low production and huge demand, it’s notoriously difficult for collectors to find.
The drawings will take place Sunday, December 21, and winners can purchase their bottles starting December 22.

• Winners drawn: Sunday, Dec. 21
• Winner bottle sales begin: Monday, Dec. 22
