Knott County junior at MSU wins KyCPA scholarship

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Educational Foundation of the Kentucky Society of CPAs (KyCPA) has awarded Chelsea Owsley the Kelley Galloway Smith Goolsby PSC Scholarship and an Educational Foundation Scholarship.

According to the Kentucky CPA Journal, the Foundation awarded $66,000 in scholarships to 43 students of accounting who met the academic standards set by its Board of Trustees.

The junior accounting major from Knott County said, “I am very grateful to have received these scholarships and would like to encourage other MSU accounting students to apply for KyCPA scholarships in the future. I have enjoyed studying accounting here at MSU and look forward to learning more on my way to becoming a CPA.”

Assistant Accounting Professor Dr. Stephen Brigham, Owsley’s advisor, said there is more to the scholarships than just money for students.

“I encourage all accounting students to take full advantage of free student memberships in the Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, not only for scholarship opportunities but also for the many opportunities to learn about the accounting profession and to expand their professional networks,” said Brigham. “I am pleased that Chelsea, along with 62 of my other students, acquired dual membership in these professional organizations this academic year.”
