Kiwanis Club Holds Thanksgiving Dinner with Harrison Elem. Students
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kiwanis Club of Lexington held its annual Thanksgving meal with students at Harrison Elementary School on Tuesday.
As part of a 21-year tradition at the downtown school, turkey, stuffing and mash potatoes were served in three shifts, giving every child a chance to sit down for a good Thanksgiving lunch.
According to the Kiwanis Club, some of the children had never seen a whole cooked turkey before.
“A lot of kids did not know what a turkey was,” says Kiwanis Club of Lexington President John Williams. “They said, ‘What’s that?’ I said. ‘That’s a turkey.’ ‘I never seen one of those before,’ they said.”
Many Kiwanis Club members mentor the students at Harrison Elementary throughout the year, and there is more planned just before Christmas.
On December 16th, the last day of school before winter break, the Kiwanis will hand out two books each to the students.
