LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Thousands of Lexington elementary , middle and high school students, both in private and public schools, came through with a much needed donation of more than 64,000 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Kids Can Fight Hunger 2015 Food Drive. The donation has an estimated retail value of $108,160.00
Schools were competing for a first place $500 cash prize in three separate divisions based on total enrollment. Winners were determined by total food poundage and total cash/check or online donations made on behalf of their schools. The school in each division that brought in the most pounds of food combined with a conversion for cash donations at a conversion rate of 100 lbs of food per $10, won division one through three.
Schools also had the opportunity to participate in a food box decorating contest for one grand prize of $250. Photos of the entries were displayed on God’s Pantry Food Bank’s Facebook page, and the winner, Sandersville Elementary, was determined by receiving the most ‘likes’.
The Kids Can Fight Hunger Food Drive is sponsored by Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky. 29 Fayette County public and private schools participated in this year’s Food Drive.
