KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 – Day 4 Recap

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’ll be Lexington versus Louisville for the first time since 2001 when Lafayette beat Male for the state crown in the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.

Paul Laurence Dunbar defeated Newport Central Catholic 55-47 Saturday night to advance to the title game Sunday at 2.

Doss beat South Laurel 70-63 in the night cap to punch its first ticket to the title game since 1980.

Neither Dunbar nor Doss has a state championship trophy.

The Bulldogs lost in back-to-back seasons (1993 to Marion County, 1994 to Fairdale).

It will be the 7th time a Lexington school and Louisville school will meet to decide the state title game.
