Owensboro beats Bowling Green 74-58 in title game

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Dylan Sanford led four players in double figures Sunday to help Owensboro defeat Bowling Green 74-58 in the championship game of the KHSAA Boys Sweet 16.

The Red Devils (31-4) jumped out to a 13-3 lead. The Purples (31-6) closed to within one point on three occasions, but could never tie the game or take the lead.

Owensboro broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Bowling Green 22-10 to take a 49-33 lead. The Red Devils opened the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run for their largest lead at 59-37.

Sanford finished with 21 points for Owensboro. The team’s Aric Holman had 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Justin Miller had 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Jacoby Harris added 14 points for the Red Devils, who shot 52 percent from the field.

Terry Taylor led Bowling Green with 16 points and nine rebounds.
