KET celebrates 50 years of service to Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-  A new historical marker celebrating KET’s legacy of service to Kentuckians was unveiled Tuesday at KET’s O. Leonard Press Telecommunications Center on Cooper Drive in Lexington.

Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS; Len Press, KET’s founding executive director; and Shae Hopkins, KET’s executive director and CEO, greeted a crowd of both former and current staff at the unveiling.

Dr. Amanda Higgins of the Kentucky Historical Society assisted in the official dedication of the marker, which joins more than 2,400 others across the state in telling the story of Kentucky’s history.

KET’s historical marker unveiling represents a highlight in the station’s yearlong celebration of its fiftieth anniversary.

Following upon the dedication, KET will broadcast The KET Story, a retrospective look at its history and legacy, on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 3/2 pm — the precise 50th anniversary of our initial broadcast (Sept. 23, 1968). The documentary will encore Monday, Sept. 24 at 9/8 pm on KET.

Additional information about KET’s anniversary, including historical photos and a historical timeline, is available at KET.org/KET50th.
