KentuckyWired announces another milestone in project
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The state’s KentuckyWired project has reached another milestone.
Officials say the last of 20 local telecommunications huts have been installed.
The last one was placed in Henderson on June 27.
The huts, which house communications equipment needed for the KentuckyWired fiber optic network, are located primarily at state police posts and Kentucky Community and Technical College campuses.
KentuckyWired is a state-run project constructing high-speed fiber optic cable in every county.
The goal is to connect government offices, universities, community colleges, state police posts, state veterans homes, and state parks.
The state says more than half of the 3,000 miles of fiber cable is in place, and the “backbone” of the first portion of the network, Lexington-to-Louisville-to-Cincinnati, has been completed.
The entire KentuckyWired network is projected to be completed in 2020.
