Kentucky’s first medical marijuana lottery
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — According to Governor Andy Beshear, Kentucky will have its first medical marijuana lottery today in Louisville at 2 this afternoon.
Today’s lottery is for cultivators and processors; these are businesses that will grow the state’s supply of medical cannabis.
State officials say the drawing will be live-streamed beginning at 2 p.m.
Nearly 5,000 businesses applied for a medical cannabis license over the summer. More than 900 of those applications were for cultivators and processors.
State officials say a limited number of businesses will be randomly selected for a license.
Medical marijuana becomes legal in Kentucky on January 1, 2025.
