Kentucky Wildlife Center needs donations
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – We love raccoons and skunks in the movies. Meeko, the raccoon in “Pocahontas.” Flower, a skunk in “Bambi.” But, now there’s a way you can help the real thing, right here in Lexington.
The Kentucky Wildlife Center is a rehabilitation center for wildlife in need.
“We bring in all of the wild critters that people find whether they’re sick, orphaned or injured,” said the center’s director Tasha Wurm. “We take them in, rehabilitate them and our goal is to re-release them if possible.”
Several animals are currently getting help in this temporary home. Many of these animals wouldn’t survive without help from people like the volunteers at the wildlife center.
“It is the most incredible feeling in the world to get to put something back out in to the world that’s better than when it came in,” said Wurm. “To see those success stories, we see them not as pets but as something that doesn’t belong to us but we get to help.”
Now, the center needs your help so it can continue helping the animals they have, and the several others that will be brought in.
The center is a non-profit and gets no funding from the state.
Aside from running low on some every-day use items, like paper towels and unscented baby wipes, it’s also running low on space.
“Our goal is to be bigger and better next year than what we’ve even been in the past,” said Wurm. “We’ve kind of maximized the capacity and what we can do in this center.”
Right now, the center is only being used for intake. Residents are with volunteers.
The near future could require a new location. To help it get there, the center is selling t-shirts in memory of an orphaned beaver that took social media by storm, shortly before she passed.
The center also has an Amazon list, with items they need. Those, when ordered, will be delivered directly to the center. You can find that list by clicking here.
