Kentucky State to cut faculty, staff jobs
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State University’s board of regents has approved cutting dozens of positions to help with a $7 million deficit.
The State Journal (http://bit.ly/1wCvE7w ) says all department deans and contracted adjunct professors are included in the cuts. Tenure for professors on track will be suspended, and other staffers will have to reapply for their positions or opt for a retirement buy-out, if eligible.
Faculty regent Elgie McFayden was the only dissenter among the 11 regents when they voted Friday morning.
University President Raymond Burse says with the overstaffing situation, there’s no reason to granting additional tenure. Burse says critical positions will be retained.
Enrollment has fallen to 1,869 at the school.
