Kentucky State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Franklin County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police are now leading the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday evening in Franklin County.

According to a release from Kentucky State Police, the agency’s Critical Incident Response Team was requested by KSP Post 12 in Frankfort to take over the case following the shooting around 5:51 p.m.

KSP says officers from the Frankfort Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a report of shots fired at a home on Ridgeview Drive. When they arrived, they encountered 56-year-old Bryan Radford of Hopkinsville.

According to the preliminary investigation outlined in the KSP release, Radford went inside the house and later came back out armed with a handgun. Officers then fired their service weapons, striking Radford.

Troopers say first aid was attempted, but Radford died from his injuries at the scene. No officers were hurt during the incident.
