Kentucky State Police investigates Wayne County murder and house fire, suspect at large

MONTICELLO, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) is investigating a suspected murder and house fire in Wayne County. Early Friday morning, around 1:00 a.m., KSP was contacted by Wayne County 911 after reports of a fire on Old Springs Road, where the residence owner, 64-year-old Mary J. Fulton, was believed to be inside.

KSP Detective Matthew Parmley arrived on the scene and learned from Wayne County Fire Department personnel that a victim, believed to be Mary Fulton, was found inside the home. Authorities report that her son, 43-year-old Joseph K. Fulton, who lived with her, was missing from the scene and allegedly made statements indicating he shot his mother and set the fire.

Joseph Fulton is considered armed and dangerous, and an active arrest warrant is in effect. Authorities urge anyone with information on his location to contact KSP Post 11 at 606-878-6622, call 911, or text “KSPTIP” to 67283.

Fulton is described as 6 feet tall, about 150 pounds with brown eyes. KSP says he was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and possibly khaki pants. He might be driving a 2008 grey or tan Dodge Nitro, with Kentucky license plate BHH801.
