Kentucky “Slow Down Move Over” Law expanded

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky’s “Slow Down, Move Over” law, first introduced in 2003, has been expanded recently to enhance roadside safety for emergency responders, tow truck operators, and stranded motorists. The law now mandates drivers to slow down and, if possible, switch lanes when approaching such scenarios on the road.

Despite the law’s long-standing presence and recent expansion, compliance remains an issue. “People do not respect the people that work on the roadside, and they’re getting ready to learn because they just passed the law in Kentucky, move over,” said Jacob Nash, a battery truck driver for AAA, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by those working along highways.

Failing to adhere to this law can result in a $500 fine. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and obey the law to ensure the safety of everyone on Kentucky’s roads.
