Kentucky sees strong voter registration following November election

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams says voter registration numbers have surged following the November 5 election, with 17,056 Kentuckians registering since voter rolls reopened. This figure also includes 2,470 registrations submitted between October 11 and 31 while the rolls were closed for the election, according to a release from Adams’ office.

“Even post-election, Kentuckians remain interested in voting,” said Secretary Adams in a statement.

During the same period, 9,901 voters were removed from the rolls due to various reasons: 6,924 were deceased, 1,431 moved out of state, 1,015 had felony convictions, 349 were duplicate registrations, 125 were adjudged mentally incompetent, and 57 voluntarily de-registered.

Adams’ office says the latest voter registration statistics show that Republican registrants now account for 47% of the electorate, with 1,669,184 voters. Republican registration grew by 10,096 voters, a 0.61% increase. Democratic registrants make up 42% of the electorate, with 1,502,837 voters, reflecting a decrease of 4,987 voters, or 0.33%. Voters registered under other political parties now total 383,270, making up 11% of the electorate. “Other” registrations saw the highest growth rate, increasing by 2,839 voters, a 0.75% rise.
