Kentucky school board sued over student’s beating
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) – A lawyer for a student who was beaten at a Kentucky high school has filed a lawsuit seeking to raise awareness about bullying.
Attorney Glenn Martin Hammond tells WYMT-TV that Pike County Schools are not doing enough to address bullying. He filed the lawsuit Thursday against the county Board of Education and represents a student claiming she suffered a brain injury during an attack at Pike County Central High School in October.
Hammond says the student is seeking treatment at a hospital in Cincinnati.
County schools Superintendent Reed Adkins says officials are taking the lawsuit seriously. Adkins says they want to place armed deputies inside schools because he thinks “it has come to that.”
Adkins says officials will hold a town hall meeting Monday evening to discuss making schools safer.
