Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame aids Salvation Army

$10,000 donation to help with much-needed equipment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame presented a check Monday for $10,000 to purchase additional equipment for The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of the Bluegrass and provide scholarships to families in need.

“The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame created the Hall of Famers for Kids Campaign to collect money to support the Boys & Girls Club,” Board Member Frank Minnifield said. “With the ongoing impact of the pandemic, children need these funds now more than ever. ”

The Boys & Girls Club of the Bluegrass provides a safe, structured afterschool program, which includes help with homework, tutoring in math and reading, and computer and fitness skill-building. That assistance has helped 78 percent of attendees improve their reading by at least one grade level.

“These funds are especially important because of the learning loss that has occurred during the pandemic,” Major William Garrett said. “Our additional assistance with tutoring will help bridge that gap. We also are helping fill the need for child care, which is in such short supply right now. Equipment and scholarships will greatly help with these crucial efforts.”
