Kentucky police officer accidentally shoots self

CINCINNATI (AP) — An off-duty police officer from Kentucky is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in Cincinnati on his way home from dinner with his wife.

Officer Darryl Jouett (JOO’-et) of the Erlanger, Kentucky Police Department was in a parking garage in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood Saturday night when he went to adjust the weapon in his holster.

WCPO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1wNFSOf ) Jouett’s duty handgun discharged, the bullet ricocheted off the elevator walls and struck him in the stomach.

The station says Jouett was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Jouett is a veteran officer with more than 25 years at the police department in Erlanger.
