Kentucky men’s basketball sets school record in win over Lipscomb
UK 97-68 Lipscomb, Cats are 4-0 on the season
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Mark Pope’s Wildcats are the first ever Kentucky team to make ten or more three-pointers in each of its first four games as a unit.
Oh and Kentucky is 4-0 under Pope after a 97-68 win over ASUN talents Lipscomb too. That’s the other good news.
Statistics Splash
Koby Brea and Lamont Butler were both 3/3 from behind the arc as Kentucky shot 48% from three point range.
Jaxson Robinson was the points leader though. He had 20 tallies and seven rebounds. On the boards, Amari Williams continues to be consistent. He had 11 rebounds versus the Bisons.
Contrary to the game versus Duke, Kentucky was in control for the duration and lead the entire game with a 40 point lead at one moment in the second half.
Three’s Please
Pope’s ambition to attempt 35 three balls per game is progressing. But, the record breaking statistic from the Lipscomb matchup tells us what the Cats are on their way to living his dreams.
Six players made at least one three pointer versus the Bisons and 11 of the 12 players used in the game attempted a three ball.
Brea and Butler had the hottest hands and say that several teammates are lethal shooters.
“I get confidence from the team and coaching staff. They do a good job of pouring confidence into me. It means a lot—how much they trust me —and everything becomes easier,” said Brea.
Foot on the Gas
After the team’s first ranked win of the season taking down Duke, some may have thought the Cats would have a hard time defeating Lipscomb.
That was far from the case on Tuesday and Pope was quick to dismiss any internal talk of making sure a slump was not on the table.
“We don’t stress. We don’t get nervous. We don’t worry because it doesn’t actually work,” said Pope. “We are always going to be focused on what we need to do. We work really hard.”
