Kentucky man hospitalized after stabbing; suspect charged with assault

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A man is recovering from life-threatening injuries following a stabbing in Campbellsville on Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Campbellsville Police Department.

Police say they were called around 11:14 a.m. to the area of Daniels Drive off Blue Hole Road after receiving reports of a fight in progress. Before officers arrived, dispatchers were informed that one of the individuals involved had been stabbed.

When officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Marcus Mathis of Campbellsville with multiple stab wounds. He was treated at the scene by Campbellsville Taylor County EMS and then flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital  for further treatment.

Investigators say Mathis and 24-year-old Ameion Bridgewater, also of Campbellsville, were involved in a physical altercation that led to the stabbing. Bridgewater was arrested and taken to the Taylor County Detention Center, where he was charged with assault in the first degree.
