Kentucky man accused of impersonating officer, using flashing lights to slow drivers
HARRODSBURG, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Kentucky man is in jail after police say he pretended to be an officer and used flashing lights on his SUV to try to slow down other drivers.
According to an arrest citation, Bluegrass 911 received a call Monday night from an off-duty officer who reported an SUV speeding and using flashing red and blue lights—apparently trying to make him slow down.
Harrodsburg Police say they quickly located the SUV in front of the off-duty officer and noticed what looked like emergency-style lights in the back windshield, along with a decal ending in “PD,” resembling a police marking.
Officers pulled the vehicle over on Danville Road. Police say the driver, 53-year-old Justine Young Gov, told them he used the lights to get speeders to slow down. He claimed he once worked as a police officer in Los Angeles, but later admitted that was not true.
Inside the SUV, officers say they found latex gloves, a reflective vest, and cards similar to parking citations. According to the citation, the setup made the SUV appear to be a real police vehicle when the lights were activated.
Gov is facing multiple charges, including impersonating a peace officer and improper use of blue lights. He is being held at the Jessamine County Detention Center.
