LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- #8 Kentucky women’s basketball is on a two game losing streak for the first time this season after a blow out defeat to #3 Texas, 67-49 on Thursday.
The Wildcats trailed for most of the game as the Longhorns dominated in the paint on both ends of the court.
Horns Hooked UK
Texas held UK to 49 points, out rebounded them 45-28 and outscored them in the paint 42-24.
Madison Booker and Kyla Oldacre were responsible for 19 points each as their team scooped up 20 offensive rebounds and capitalized on 17 UK turnovers.
“From the beginning, they were taking us out of rhythm. They were very, very physical throughout the basketball game on the perimeter, but also in the paint on the offensive end. They got really good touches, compromised our rotations and we just didn’t play well,” said Head Coach Kenny Brooks.
No Scratch from the Cats
Kentucky had a poor shooting night too going 34.7% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc.
The leading scorer for Brooks’ team was Georgia Amoore, who did not come close to her usual 20 point performance and finished with 14.
Teonni Key registered a double double for UK. She contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dazia Lawrence added 11 tallies.
The Cats will look to get back on track against Georgia at home on Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m.
“I mean, we’re at a point of the year that we can’t hang our head like we don’t know what’s wrong. It’s very clear what we’re doing wrong and we can’t let this energy build up and snowball into the next game,” said point guard Georgia Amoore. “Just staying positive because that’s literally all we can do. We cannot be miserable and let that carry over.”
UK is 1-0 against the Bulldogs this season after winning in Athens 78-64 on January 19.
Solid Blue Support
Kentucky has three more home games left in the regular season before heading to Greenville, South Carolina for the SEC Tournament.
UGA, highly-ranked foe LSU and bitter rivals Tennessee are all coming to Lexington with Kentucky needing as much support as possible from Solid Blue fans.
“It’s a tough league and anything you can get to put you over the edge, it really helps,” said Amoore. “Its game by game, so we need to continue (the attendance) for the rest of the season. I don’t know if its me being sentimental, but times ticking. We just appreciate everyone coming out.”
