Kentucky Job Corps Centers to remain open; jobs saved

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVQ) – Kentucky’s three Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers won’t be closed by the federal government after all, saving more than 100 jobs, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The centers are located in Frenchburg, Pine Knot and Mammoth Cave.

The facilities serve at-risk youth in Edmonson, Menifee and McCreary counties.

The centers will remain under the direction of the USDA.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, asked the Trump administration to keep the centers open once the proposal was made to close them. Senator McConnell was notified personally by USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue that the administration had granted his request to keep the centers open.
