Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra
Woodford Theatre is celebrating Jazz Month and Duke Ellington’s birthday with a special concert featuring the jazz legend’s music, co-directed by Miles Osland & Richard Domek, of the Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra (KJRO.)
Katie Solove sits down with Domek who talks about the show, and it’s very special guest, Mercedes Ellington.
KJRO is a 17 piece big band that is especially suited for, and highly skilled at, recreating authentic swing-era arrangements. They are the only big band in the Lexington area and one of the few in this region that can capture the energy, excitement and rhythmic feeling and pulse of the big band music of the swing-era.
The concert takes place on Saturday, April 22 at 8:00 p.m. at the Woodford Theatre, located at 275 Beasley Road, in Versailles.
A free “Meet & Greet” with Mercedes Ellington is also being held earlier in the day at the Imani Baptist church (1555 Georgetown Road, in Lexington,) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Tickets for the show, which include a post-show reception, are $40.
