Kentucky hosting 2025 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – For the first time since 2014, The University of Kentucky is the host site for the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The meet kicked off Thursday afternoon and extends through Saturday evening. All 16 SEC schools are in attendance.
THURSDAY:
On Thursday, Kate Powers earned a third-place finish in the women’s hammer throw, recording a mark of 65.05 meters on her final attempt to secure a spot on the podium.
FRIDAY:
Friday’s entire meet schedule was moved up due to inclement weather.
Freshman Collins Kiprop Kipngok won gold in the 3000m steeplechase. He dominated the field from start to finish, crossing the line in 8:26.33— setting a new SEC meet record and a new facility record.
SATURDAY:
In Saturday’s finals, Kentucky’s Janet Jepkemboi Amimo won silver in the women’s 1500 with a time of 4:20.59.
Payton Phillips won bronze in the women’s pole vault, clearing 4.26 meters.
Luke Brown earned silver in the men’s triple jump at 16.33 meters.
The Kentucky women’s 4×400 meter relay team won bronze with a time of 3:28.78.
The Kentucky men finished 13th overall. The Kentucky women finished 8th.
