Kentucky hospital briefly locked down after report of possible active shooter, officials say

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A hospital in Hazard was placed on a temporary lockdown overnight after a 911 call reported a possible active shooter, according to local emergency officials.

Perry County Emergency Management says Kentucky State Police, Hazard police, and the sheriff’s office responded to the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital after the call came in.

Authorities say responding officers found no evidence of an active shooter or anyone inside the hospital with a gun.

Police say the situation involved a reported threat to take a child, but details remain limited as officers continue monitoring the scene.

Emergency management officials say the hospital is safe and there is no ongoing threat to staff, patients, or the public.

The investigation remains active.
