Kentucky guardsmen save Owensboro man’s life

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WTVQ)- Two Kentucky guardsmen are being called heroes after saving the life of an elderly, Owensboro man.

On February 27, 87 year-old David Hamilton lost control of his car and drove into floodwaters along a stretch of highway in Daviess County, trapping himself inside.

Spcs. Casey Brandle and Justin Stinnett, both with the 206th Engineer Battalion, were in the area when this happened.

They jumped into the water, swam to the car, Stinnett applied his weight to the back of the car to keep it from sinking further, while Brandle pulled Hamilton from the driver’s side window.

Once they got Hamilton out of the car, the soldiers swam him back to the embankment where emergency crews could reach him.

All of this was witnessed by a Daviess County Sheriff Deputy.

Hamilton was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

On March 19, Hamilton paid a visit to the 206th armory in Owensboro to say thank you again to Brandle and Stinnett.

Brandle serves the 206th Forward Support Company as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and Stinnett as an allied trade specialist. Both have been in the National Guard for six years.
