Kentucky to get federal aid for water improvements
ATLANTA, Ga. (WTVQ)- Kentucky will soon be getting funds from the federal government to help improve drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will give Kentucky $38,559,00.
“EPA is delivering on President Trump’s commitment to modernize our nation’s water infrastructure and improve public health and environmental protections,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “EPA’s $2.6 billion contribution to the State Revolving Funds will enable more communities to make the investments needed to ensure Americans have safe water for drinking and recreation. These funds can also be combined with EPA’s WIFIA loans to create a powerful, innovative financing solution for major infrastructure projects nationwide.”
“Helping our states invest in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure ensures clean and safe water necessary to support local needs,” said EPA Acting Region 4 Administrator Mary S. Walker. “EPA is committed to investing in local projects that will boost the economy while improving water systems and public health.”
The State Revolving Funds will require state match, loan repayments, and interest that will come back into the funds.
The agency estimates over $743 billion is needed nationwide for water infrastructure improvements.
