Kentucky family seeking community support after fire leaves them without a home just days before Christmas
LIBERTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Kentucky family of six is facing the holidays with uncertainty after their home was destroyed by a fire Monday, according to information shared on a GoFundMe page created to support the family.
The fire happened while the family’s children were at school. According to the GoFundMe description, the house was a total loss. The family has four children living in the home, all under the age of 18, with the youngest just 7 years old.
The GoFundMe page says the home was older and uninsured, leaving the family without coverage to help rebuild or replace what was lost. The fire happened just days before Christmas.
Matthew Atwood, the father, is described on the fundraising page as a hardworking provider and an assistant pastor at Harmony Fellowship Church in Nicholasville. The family is known in their community for helping others, often giving whatever they can to those in need, according to the post.
Supporters say the fundraiser is intended to help the family with immediate needs, including housing, clothing and basic necessities as they begin to recover from the loss. In addition to financial help, the family is also asking for prayers during what supporters describe as an overwhelming and emotional time.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist the Atwood family as they work to rebuild and move forward. For a link to the GoFundMe page, click HERE.
