Kentucky falls to Texas in low scoring overtime battle

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky drops their ninth straight SEC game in a heartbreaking overtime loss against Texas at Kroger Field on Saturday Night 16-13. The Wildcat defense held Texas quarterback Arch Manning to 132 yards and no touchdowns. Kentucky failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities inside the 30 including in overtime which ended up costing the Wildcats the game.

The offense struggled tonight against a strong Texas defense. Quarterback Cutter Boley was a highlight overall completing 31/39 of his passes, he also gained 45 yards on the ground with a touchdown in the game. Running back Seth McGowan had 14 carries on the ground for 45 yards, averaging 3.2 yards per carry, he also led the team in receiving with seven catches for 68 yards.

The Wildcat defense was stout in this game against a talented Texas offense. They allowed just over 100 yards passing in the game and allowed just 47 yards on the ground. Kentucky also did not allow a single Longhorn receiver to have 40 receiving yards.

Special teams for Kentucky could be one of the main reasons the Wildcats lost this one. Texas punt returner Ryan Niblett had two punt returns of over 4o yards in this game. The first led to the Longhorn touchdown, as it set them up inside the five, and in the fourth he had a long one to get the Longhorns in position field goal that helped send the game to overtime.

Kentucky falls to 2-4 (0-4) and will host Tennessee next week at 7:45 from Kroger Field. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
