Kentucky erases 18-point deficit, stuns LSU at the buzzer
BATON ROUGE, La. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky erased an 18-point second-half deficit to stun LSU, 75-74, on Wednesday night, sealing the comeback with a dramatic buzzer-beater by Malachi Moreno. It was the largest comeback of the Mark Pope era at Kentucky.
With just over one second remaining, Collin Chandler heaved the inbounds pass the length of the court. Moreno made a tough catch, spun and knocked down a 15-foot jumper at the horn to lift the Wildcats.
Kentucky struggled early, opening 1-of-12 from the field with four turnovers. The Wildcats trailed by 16 at halftime and scored just 22 points in the first half.
The second half was a different story. Kentucky poured in 53 points after the break, outscoring LSU by 17 to complete the rally.
Denzel Aberdeen, scoreless in the first half, scored all 17 of his points in the second. Otega Oweh led Kentucky with 21 points, his fourth consecutive game with at least 20. Despite spending much of the second half in foul trouble, Moreno finished with 10 points and eight rebounds to go along with the game-winning shot.
Kentucky improved to 2-2 in SEC play and 10-6 overall.
