Kentucky Children’s Hospital patients team up with tennis pros

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Some of Kentucky’s youngest champions shared the spotlight with tennis pros in a special match Friday at the University of Kentucky’s Boone Tennis Complex.

The second annual Lexington Open Mini Pro-Am brought together current and former patients from Kentucky Children’s Hospital, who teamed up with professional players and UK student-athletes for a day of fun, learning, and inspiration.

The event is part of the Lexington Open, a major stop on the USTA and ITF pro circuits—and, for the second year in a row, it’s serving a greater purpose by benefiting Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

One mother, whose daughter participated, reflected on the significance of the moment:

“She was really nervous about playing tennis because she’s never played tennis before. She was excited to be able to come in and learn those moves from the professionals.”

The Mini Pro-Am is one of several community-focused events tied to the Lexington Open, which continues to grow in both athletic prestige and charitable impact—highlighting the power of sports to uplift and connect.
